It’s all about perception

If you control perception, you control reality. And that’s power.

For a long time, I wondered how propaganda really works, how it can shape whole societies. And then I realized: it’s simple. By shaping how people perceive, it shapes what people believe.

Propaganda isn’t just about lying. Often, it works by selectively presenting truths, framing events emotionally, or repeating certain ideas until they become the default lens through which people see the world. In this way, it doesn’t just tell people what to think, it shapes how they think.

Perception shapes reality.

We all look at the world through our own filters, formed by our experiences, upbringing, media, and culture. But when that filter is placed or manipulated by someone else, they gain power over your reality.

When your filter is shaped by someone else, whether a media outlet, a government, or even a dominant culture, you’re no longer fully in charge of how you experience the world.

This is why critical thinking, self-awareness, and questioning are so important.

What helps you stay aware of your filters?
